The most transformative ideas often begin in communities closest to the challenge. We curate a growing portfolio of locally led initiatives that are strengthening systems, institutions, and communities across Africa. The KIN Philosophy: Relational Stewardship
At the heart of the KIN Fund is Relational Stewardship—KIN’s approach to stewarding resources responsibly through relationships of trust, solidarity, shared accountability, and local agency.
It brings together the rigour of outcomes-focused philanthropy with the trust, flexibility, and power-sharing of trust-based practice. We believe resources are scarce and should be used intentionally, informed by evidence, learning, and meaningful outcomes. At the same time, those closest to the context should have a meaningful role in defining what those outcomes are and how change is pursued.
KIN therefore holds two principles together: steward resources responsibly, and trust those closest to the problem to lead.
Through flexible financing, Collaborative Unlearning, Solidarity Accompaniment, and shared accountability, KIN creates the conditions for local organisations to make informed decisions, adapt to context, learn from what works and what does not, and remain accountable for outcomes that communities value.
The Approach
Unlearn
examine inherited assumptions, challenge extractive and paternalistic ways of working, and cultivate more equitable approaches to leadership and partnership.
Accompany
Our Solidarity Accompaniment Network connects leaders with experienced practitioners who provide voluntary technical support tailored to each organization's goals.
Resource
flexible, trust-based financing that enables organisations to invest in their priorities, respond to emerging opportunities, strengthen their institutions, and lead sustainable change.
Steward
shared accountability through reflection, evidence, and continuous learning. Together with our partners, we define meaningful outcomes, learn from experience, and ensure that resources contribute to stronger organisations and lasting community impact.
